HE WAS 80 YEARS OLD. WELL, THE BARRETT-JACKSON AUCTION KICKED OFF ITS FIRST DAY AT THE SOUTH FLORIDA FAIRGROUNDS TODAY. SOOJI NAM WAS THERE AND GIVES US A SNEAK PEEK OF SOME OF THE COOL CARS YOU CAN EXPECT TO SEE AND BID ON RIGHT NOW. CAMARADERIE AND AND COOL VEHICLES. OH, A NOSTALGIC CALLING. ALL THE CAR AFICIONADOS TO THE PALM BEACHES. I USED TO WATCH THIS ON TV ALL THE TIME. SAW THAT IT WAS LOCAL IN PALM BEACH AND HAD TO COME BY JUST ONCE IN A LIFETIME. EXPERIENCE. THERE ARE MORE THAN 600 CARS AT THE BARRETT-JACKSON AUCTION THIS YEAR. WE HAVE A JIMMY BUFFETT CAR THAT WE ARE SELLING A BURT REYNOLDS CAR THAT WE’RE SELLING. SO WE SELL CELEBRITY CARS, AND WE ALSO HAVE A TANKER SELLING. YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT? YOU CAN BUY A FULLY DRIVABLE TANK. I REMEMBER I HAD A 62 IMPALA CONVERTIBLE MYSELF, AND RIGHT NOW I’M DRIVING A 93 OLDSMOBILE CONVERTIBLE AND IT’S STILL WORKS. I LIKE TAKING IT SHOPPING BECAUSE ALL THE MEN COME AND LOOK AT ME. NO. NOT REALLY. THE CAR OFFICIALS SAY BIDDERS FLY FROM ALL OVER TO WEST PALM BEACH, CREATING A TREMENDOUS ECONOMIC IMPACT IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. IT’S NOT JUST AN AUCTION. Just a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Brian Myhalyk, a resident, told WPBF 25 News."Camaraderie and cool vehicles," Ethan Fryover said when asked what his favorite part of the car show was. There are more than 600 cars on the docket this year. "We have a Jimmy Buffet car that we are selling, a Burt Reynolds car that we’re selling. We sell celebrity cars; we also have a tank we’re selling," Craig Jackson, president and CEO of the Barrett Jackson Auction Company, told WPBF 25 News. "We have three Ford GTs we're selling, which is amazing to have three of those at one auction of the latest generation."The car show is a four-day, family-friendly event where you can truly see history come alive."I just saw the M3, the old M3, up for auction. Excited to see how much that goes for, just kind of see how much it progressed," Gabriel Labrada, who was checking out the auction, told WPBF 25 News. "My grandson loves cars, so I’ve been taking pictures of the McLarens, and all the cars that he knows that I don’t know," Ruth Rodriguez, another visitor, said. "The ones from the 50’s I remember. I had a ’62 Impala convertible myself."Officials said bidders fly from all over to West Palm Beach, which then creates a tremendous impact on the economy in Palm Beach County."It’s not just an auction. We have over 100 vendors here. You have ride and drives; you can get in with a professional driver," Jackson said. And for many visitors, it's not just about cars. It's about sharing the memories of your life. "There was one car here, that I drove... a ‘57 pontiac with an Indian in the front. And it would light up, and my mom would go, 'Oh she’s home because she’d see that light coming over the hill,'" Rodriguez shared.
