You could invite figures from the field in which you have applied to work, for example, a leading financier, perhaps mixed with people who are leaders in other areas in which you're interested in, such as sports or volunteering. You could choose well-known historic figures, but don't feel obliged to.

A floral delivery, homemade snack, an addition to their beverage collection, a present for another treasured family member or any memento with meaning will all leave a lovely impression. Then after the event, send a handwritten thank-you note.

If you're interested, respond with an enthusiastic “Yes, I'd love to” and ask for any follow-up details. If you aren't interested, be polite and straightforward when you decline.
