Disney shares new details about ‘Avatar’ experience slated to come to Disneyland Resort (2024)
Disney shared new concept art of the “Avatar” experience slated to come to the Disneyland Resort, during the company’s annual shareholders meeting Wednesday.
In March, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that an Avatar-based land similar to Pandora-The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida could be coming to “The Happiest Place on Earth.”
“We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida; we’re going to put a second one in California. That doesn’t mean we can’t put one somewhere in Asia or somewhere in Europe, for instance,” Iger said during the event, according to Scott Gustin, a member of the digital team at Nexstar Media Group Inc.
News of the potential addition to the “Happiest Place on Earth” comes as Anaheim city officials continue to review the company’s Disneyland Forward plan.
Iger initially announced plans to bring an “Avatar experience” to the Disneyland Resort in 2023, but specific details on what that experience will have been limited. Last May, it was announced that James Cameron, director of the Avatar movies, had been working with Walt Disney Imagineering on the new project.
Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed during the MoffettNathanson Media and Communications Summit on Wednesday that an Avatar-themed land is coming to the Disneyland Resort.
The “Avatar” experience, first announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger in 2023, will officially be the first new themed area to break ground under the recently approved Disneyland Forward proposal.
“We are excited about the stories our guests could experience at Walt's original theme park destination after approval of DisneylandForward — including the chance to experience all-new Avatar adventures with a visit to Pandora,” D'Amaro wrote.

After almost a decade with no new Avatar: The Last Airbender film or TV projects, the franchise received a popular Netflix live-action series. Next, it is slated to receive an animated theatrical film in 2025. The animated film is set to be the first in a series of films based on the Avatar: The Last Airbender series.
Avatar is Disney's most important property for the foreseeable future, with the highest-grossing movies of all time. The success of Avatar: The Way of Water at the box office solidifies the franchise's importance for Disney.
The project aims to add entire new theme park lands to Disneyland in Southern California, which could include places featured in Disney movies, such as Black Panther's Wakanda or Frozen's Arendelle.
Pandora is an inner satellite of Saturn. It was discovered in 1980 from photos taken by the Voyager 1 probe and was provisionally designated S/1980 S 26.
'Avatar 4' will move the action from Pandora to Earth, reveals producer Jon Landau. Sounds super cool, but we'll have to wait until December 2026 to see it. After three adventures on Pandora, James Cameron's Avatar franchise will go where it's never gone before: Earth.
On September 17, 2011, Disney entered into an exclusive, long-term licensing agreement with Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox for the worldwide theme park rights to Avatar; Disney agreed to pay Cameron and 20th Century a licensing fee and a percentage of merchandise sales.
Replacing Camp Minnie-Mickey, Pandora – the World of Avatar is a $500m (€446m, £386m) immersive land inspired by James Cameron's 2009 Academy Award-winning blockbuster. The new land is a standalone experience, separate from the story of the films, and set a generation after the events of Avatar.
I absolutely loved this ride. Without a doubt the best ride in any of the parks in my opinion. I dare you not to believe you are flying over Pandora. My daughter and I had the best time together experiencing this ride and i would recommend it to anyone.
The ride begins as you enter a link chamber and sit on a specially designed bike-like seat. Once seated, you'll wear a pair of 3D glasses and prepare for your flight. As the ride starts, you'll feel the sensation of your avatar being “linked” to your Banshee, and then you'll be transported to the skies of Pandora.
The ride is like Soaring but you are riding a banshee and it is around Pandora. The ride mechanics are very impressive. You also get sprayed by water. A nice perk of this ride is due to everyone lining up for this, the other rides in the park have very short lines at the start of the day.
Disney's Animal Kingdom has recently welcomed a new addition to the park, the long anticipated Pandora – the World of Avatar. Replacing Camp Minnie-Mickey, Pandora – the World of Avatar is a $500m (€446m, £386m) immersive land inspired by James Cameron's 2009 Academy Award-winning blockbuster.
