It's, Like, Definitely Time to Get a Pet, No? Here Are the Cutest Cat Breeds (1)

I'm sick of hearing about "man's best friend." I want to talk about cats. Specifically, cute lil cat breeds that make for great pets. I get that dogs are "fun," but if you want to live with a domesticated partner animal that you can view as an intellectual equal, you gotta get a cat.

I'm not advocating that you become a full-on cat lady or anything (though do you, no judgment), but I do think it's pretty important to conduct a wee bit of research to find the furry feline that is right for you. Not all cat breeds are the same. Some are much more affectionate and open to cuddling, while others need their personal space and don’t require much attention at all. Certain kitties are rambunctious and can occupy themselves with a piece of string forever, while other breeds tend to be extremely lazy, preferring to sleep most of the day away. (Turns out, I am a cat.)

And just as cat personalities vary, so do the physical appearances of each furball. Now I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, but the internet is pretty much in consensus on this list. Blame the Ragdoll's blue eyes, the Maine Coon's magnificent coat, or maybe it's the Egyptian Mau's spotted fur that seals the deal. Who can *really* say besides, you know, probably a scientist, but that is not my professional calling so moving on: here are the cutest cat breeds.

1

Ragdolls

Did anyone else not know that cats can have BLUE eyes? Not even, like, regular boring blue eyes, but seriously piercing baby blues that puncture your soul?! That’s just one of the many magnificent qualities of the Ragdoll breed. They're also known to be very friendly and cuddly...hence their name. But yeah, because of all these characteristics, this breed tends to be superrr expensive—so don't get your hopes up before you work out your cool-cats-and-kittens budget.

2

Persians

Persian cats like to be treated with respect and dignity. They often run the household (lol) and are very high maintenance, especially with their grooming regimen. But I mean, come on, one look at that pouty face and endearing eyes and you can't help but forgive their drama queen tendencies.

3

Maine Coons

If you’re searching for the biggest, fluffiest cat on the market, the Maine Coon should be your go-to breed. Their thick coat makes for a super cuddly and soft companion, while their “gentle giant” reputation speaks to their loving and pleasant nature. Just so you know, they really can get kinda hefty—the largest Maine Coon on record grew to be over four feet long!

4

Serengeti

The spotted pattern of the Serengeti cat gives this breed a bit of a wild vibe, but in reality, these guys are super friendly and make for great pets. They're insanely good at jumping thanks to their long legs, and their tall ears make them look like they’re always on high alert. And how cool is this: The tips of the Serengeti’s fur is translucent, which makes their coats appear to shimmer from a distance. ✨Magic.✨

5

Toygers

OMG, YOU GUYS. This is a...TOY TIGER. Like, an itty bitty tiger that’s as cute as a stuffed animal but is actually a real pet. I'm in love. Despite it's tiger-like appearance, the Toyger has an extremely calm and friendly demeanor, so it's a great pet option for families. Every Toyger's coat is completely unique, so no two kitties look the same, which is also pretty cool.

6

Himalayans

The Himalayan breed is often referred to as "Himmies," and if that’s not adorbz enough, then just wait 'til you get to cuddle with one of these cuties. Himmies' bods are usually covered with milky-colored, fluffy fur, while their face, paws, ears, and tails tend to look dark chocolate brown—and don't forget about their brilliant blue eyes.

7

Egyptian Mau

The color of the Egyptian Mau’s spotted coat varies from cat to cat, but the cuteness level remains the same. And on top of their eye-catching fur, the Egyptian Mau has beautiful, bright green eyes. So freakin' regal!

8

Ragamuffins

Ragamuffins are a relatively large domestic cat breed—they can weigh more than 12 pounds—and their silky coat of fur makes them look even bigger. BTW, their eyes tend to be amber, gold, green, or blue. So, yeah, pretty much everything about the majestic Ragamuffin says “please cuddle me until we fall asleep,” and that’s just the kind of support I need in my life right now.

9

Birmans

Another blue-eyed beauty! You’ll never get sick of those piercing baby blues and soft, silky coat. While the tail, ears, and face of Birmans usually develop a dark brown hue, their paws are white as socks—and are often referred to as their “gloves,” aww.

10

Bengals

Similar to the Toyger, the Bengal cat has the traditional spotted pattern of a wild feline, with the more mild temperament and cuteness of a domesticated pet. The beautiful marbled pattern on the Bengal's coat is made up of contrasting shades of light brown and bright orange, which adds a cool dimension to their already athletic build.

11

Scottish Folds

The cuteness quotient of a Scottish Fold is definitely amplified by their lil foldy ears. The unique ear fold appearance is actually thanks to a spontaneous mutation in Scottish farm cats—the more you knowwwww, right?! This cat thrives on attention, which shouldn’t be a problem considering you're a professional belly-rub giver.

12

Exotic Shorthairs

Is...this...the...squishiest little face...in the entire world?! Yes, I think so. Exotic shorthairs' expressive face, wide eyes, and big round body make up the cuteness trifecta, in my opinion. Total munchkin status.
