Who is ready for SPRING?
I took my boy camping last weekend, and Friday night it was 27 degrees (well, it was Saturday morning when I got up to make coffee & breakfast for 16 families of Cub Scouts!)
I can't wait for Spring!

Ours and several cars from our local club there last year, had a great time - enjoyed the brewery tour most.

We will be there again and hopefully others from our club. http://mastersmiataclub.com/

I remember you folks! Looking forward to another great time this coming year and more importantly NO RAIN on Thursday!
I've had folks ask about moving the event until later in the Spring, but it's great to KICK THINGS OFF in March. Besides, that's what Fred wanted.

I'm looking forward to hearing about some great rides that our friends at Grand Strand Miatas will setup for us. (I'd like another brewery tour because their samples were KICKIN')

+1 on not having it later in the spring. Lots more people competing for space and slowing down traffic then. This is a good way to kick the season off.
The Sea Mist is getting a little long in the tooth, but the fun and fellowship are what we go down there for. Great reason to get away from the hassles of home for a while.

Already made our reservations. Now I'll start looking for the registration form for the event.

Looking forward to it.

Is there a Facebook event for this yet? Once there is I can pin it on the South Carolina Miatas group to get 77 sets of eyes looking at it :)

Also, for anyone south of Myrtle would you be interested in a cruise to the event leaving from the Charleston/Folly Beach area?

The last time we had MAMB at the track there were no specific rules besides a helmet (and maybe that wasn't even a rule). I had my own helmet so I don't remember anything on loaners.

So, I guess I added nothing to the conversation.

We're probably all still frozen from the Winter storms!
I wanted to run something by you all... Would you prefer instead of Free Hotdog "Friday" where it's an evening/dinner thing for it to be Free Hotdog LUNCH on Saturday, right after the Car Show in the Clouds?
This way, if you want to go to a nice dinner on Friday night you can.
Everyone who's going, or thinking of going, please respond with Friday or Saturday.

I have gotten the Zoom Zoom box of goodies and boy is there some cool stuff in there again!

:jump: THIS JUST IN!!!:jump:

I just got off the phone with Steve Z. at the Speedway.
Here's the word on Pricing for the track day events:
AutoX - $10
Laps around the Speedway in your car - $10
NO Helmets required!

Spectators $5 per person.

They will be offering laps (as a passenger in one of their Nascar type race cars) for ONLY $49 which is less than 1/2 price! You get 3 laps around the speedway at this price which is normally $129!

They are also going to enable us to raffle off a Nascar Driving Experience where they train you to drive one of their cars and then you get to drive it around the track. This is normally a $199 to $399 value. We are going to sell the raffle tickets for $20 each. (this is a 50/50 item for the racetrack and the children's home.)

I will have the entry form updated for the event tonight or tomorrow.

If you haven't made your reservations with the Sea Mist, please go out and do so as soon as possible. They can only keep our block of rooms reserved for US for a limited time. If you need the reservation # it's on the first post of this thread.

Oh, and I've got the logo finished. It's PURDY... (and cool! :) )

Yes, Friday.

We are moving the Free Hot Dogs to Saturday for Lunch from Friday evening.

Is the Plantation drive on Saturday or Friday? We don't do the track. We really enjoyed the trip to the USS NC.

Snowdog1967

11th February 2014, 13:21

If the AutoX is run like it has been in the past. We will have Driver's meeting first and give folks the ability to "walk the course" Once they have walked the course and gone over basic safety, we will let folks do some practice runs to get familiar with the course.
Then, we will start timed runs. I am working on getting some "real" timing equipment, but we may end up using a stopwatch.
We will start timing runs and depending on how many people are participating, take the best of 2 or 3 runs to get our top 5.
Then, we let our top 5 do a run to get our top 3.
I buy the Beer at the Beer swap for the winner! (or something like that... Still figuring that out ;) )
This is being said by me, someone with NO AutoX experience other than remembering what we did SEVERAL years ago the last time we had a Track Day. If there is someone here with a little more experience who wants to assist me in getting this "right" please PM me!

For those who don't want to partake in the track day events (which should be fun, even if you don't performance drive your vehicle) We are going to have a drive down to the Plantation area that we attempted to go to last year, but were rained out of.

Howdy Ladies and Gentleman!

38 days until Miatas at Myrtle Beach!!!!

Now that we know what everything is and will cost, please get your registration forms turned in!

We are EXCITED about the return of "Track Day" to M@MB VIII, especially the raffle for a NASCAR driving experience!!!

Also remember that the Sea Mist is only holding our rooms until the 27th of Feb. then they release them back out for ANYONE to book. This is going to be a busy weekend in MB, so we want to make sure that everyone who wants to stay at the Sea Mist CAN.
(Remember to use the Group Sales # in post #1 of this thread)

After all this SNOW we have had, I'm so looking forward to a GREAT escape to Myrtle Beach and raising money for the children who need it.

Yes, each registered attendee will have a name badge for the event that will:
1) Identify you as a registered member of our event not only to us working the event, but to new friends you haven't met yet.
2) Provide your discount to the Breakfast at Teena's.

The Car show is Saturday MORNING. Staging the cars up on the top of the parking deck normally starts around 10:00am and judging starts at 11:00am, normally.

So Saturday afternoon post Hot Dog lunch getting a group to head over to the Speed Park sounds like a great and fun thing to do! I wonder if any of our local Myrtle Beach folks might be able to arrange a "group rate" for us over there for Saturday?

Our awards normally start at 4:30pm on Saturday and they, along with the raffle give away lasts about an hour.

...And would any miata folk be interested in heading to the NASCAR Speed park for some adrenaline filled go kart racing Saturday morning?....

TBM275 made a very good suggestion - that we look into some kind of group deal at the NASCAR Speedpark so that MAMBers could race each other in go-karts. I can see it now - one club challenges another, intra-club races, and general fast and furious, wheel to wheel action.

NASCAR Speedpark is located near Broadway at the Beach but on the other side of Hwy. 17. They are open from 11am until 9pm. (Note: the autocross is at the Myrtle Beach Speedway. Two different places.)

Here's the deal:

Normally, admission is $29.99.
Our group rate is $21.50.

A "group" is at least 15 people who show up at the same time and give their admission fees to one person, who pays for the group. Tell them you are with the "Miatas at Myrtle Beach" group.

It doesn't have to be one group. There can be an 11am group, a 4pm group, and an after dinner group. Or whenever you get 15 people together. If you don't have a group, just pay the normal admission fee.

Once in, you can ride any of the go-kart tracks as often as you wish. The admission fee entitles you to come and go all day long. Spectators are welcome free of charge.

Visit the Speedpark web site here:

Once in, you can ride any of the go-kart tracks as often as you wish. The admission fee entitles you to come and go all day long. Spectators are welcome free of charge.

Visit the Speedpark web site here:
http://www.nascarspeedpark.com/sc.aspx

Heck yes! That is more than I could have pictured. Getting a good group together like that to go run would be awesome, specially loading the lot with our 'big go-karts' :D

I think the beauty of this is for folks who don't want to AutoX their "baby" but want the opportunity to "race" for bragging rights, this is a way they can do it. Plus, Go Karts are FUN!!!
I think this will be an absolute blast for everyone who participates! It's great to add more "competitive" options for attendees.

If any of you folks are on the fence, get off the fence and get your registrations and shirt pre-orders in!
We've got people from New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, North and South Carolina already registered. Don't delay!

This is a meeting of miata owners to get together at the beach and enjoy our cars and each others company. Because we are all different, we like offering different fun things to do.
We hadn't had a track day in a few years, so we wanted to bring that back. Someone else mentioned go karts and heck, that sounds like loads of fun, so we will have that, too.
That said, we are going to do a car show at the top of the Sea Mist parking deck.
We will have a poker run on Thursday.
We will have a "beer swap" out on the patio Friday night.
We sell raffle tickets for some really cool prizes that will be given out on Saturday Night. We will have a separate raffle for a NASCAR Driving Experience gift certificate that you can use in Myrtle Beach Speedway (and maybe other participating locations)
The bottom line is, if you enjoy your miata, you will have opportunities for fun during our event. More importantly, you will be helping raise money for children in foster care in NC. A worthy cause.

As far as pre-ordering t-shirts. We need those mailed in by March 15th.

What if you aren't sure about the laps? Could they be signed up for at the track?

Snowdog1967

2nd March 2014, 19:29

I have a few folks up here that are interested in having cornhole available to play while down at M@MB VIII.
(Heck, maybe even an impromptu TOURNAMENT!)
That said, BRINGING Cornhole boards down in a Miata would be, ahem, difficult to say the least.
How many of my Grand Strand folks are able to get their hands on a set of Cornhole boards (that we would take care of, naturally and return in good shape!) so that if folks wanted to play cornhole during/after the "truth serum" swap on Friday night or any other time that they weren't participating in other activities?

One of the attendees went as far as to make sure I had a set of RULES and board building advice. (That's not happening by me, I have no skillz with wood working)

Thoughts?

Have you mailed in your registration yet?
Our room block has been released, so if you're coming, hurry up and get your reservation before the rooms all get booked!
If you want a T-Shirt guaranteed, please send in your registration where I receive it in High Point, NC by March 7th. I have to put in my order by the 8th at the latest.

The first "event" on Thursday is the Poker Run. The Poker run will be taking place in the afternoon, after 2:00pm. We realize that many folks will be driving down on Thursday and want to give the opportunity to participate.

At last, here is the official word about the Friday Big Drive for March 28.

8:45 AM - Driver's meeting
9:00 AM - Depart

Hampton Plantation
First, we'll head south beyond Georgetown, SC and visit Hampton Plantation. The drive will take a little over an hour. Hampton Plantation is what everyone thinks of when they imagine a plantation - big building, white columns, spacious grounds, moss-draped trees, etc. This was scheduled for last year but we got rained out. Admission to the grounds is free but guided tours of the interior of the "Big House" are $7.50 per person. We'll be at the plantation for about 2 hours and cap it off with a group picture on the porch and steps of the mansion. Visit the Hampton Plantation web site here: http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/hampton/introduction.aspx

Lunch at Flo's Place, Murrells Inlet
We'll leave the plantation and head north to Murrells Inlet for lunch at Flo's Place. Flo's is a waterfront seafood restaurant that has been in the same location for 34 years. Flo's serves Murrells Inlet seafood with a New Orleans slant. If the weather is nice we can be outside on the deck and if it's not nice there is plenty of room inside. Flo's has a fun atmosphere, plenty of parking and they are looking forward to hosting us. Visit the Flo's Place web site here: http://flosplace.com/

Participants can partake of the plantation and lunch at Flo's Place, or do the plantation and skip lunch, or skip the plantation and join us for lunch around 1:00 or 1:30. I need to give the plantation and the restaurant an idea of how many of us to expect. Please send me an email with your intentions to bwoodward1804@gmail.com. Here's what I need to know:
- Name
- Number of people
- Plantation and lunch - Plantation only - or lunch only
This will be VERY helpful. If you know some people who are planning to go on the Big Drive but they don't follow Miata.net, please ask them let me know their intentions.

If you have any questions about the Big Drive, send me an email at bwoodward1804@gmail.com.

For those NC PRHT owners, I'm offering a PRHT tech session if there is any interest. Best times are either Friday afternoon or Saturday afternoon depending on other events that participants are attending. Below or some details, but it really depends on the interest. Seeing the top operated in the emergency mode and lubrication are the most beneficial topics. Please PM me if you have interest and what you would like to see demonstrated from the list below. Also for NC owners I will have just completed the install of TDR's Special Force Turbo kit rated at 335 RWHP so you can get a first hand look of the install (and get a ride).

I just had an opportunity to look at the event schedule and start to plan
our eating schedule and it struck me that it might be nice to have a
night for all of us to get together for dinner someplace around town.

With that in mind, is there anyone (a 'local') who could recommend
a place for dinner large enough for a good sized crowd to eat. That way,
new or former attendees will have a 'gathering hole' in the evenings.

Just a thought....:D

So, print off your form, fill it in, and bring it over to the Jewel Lot to register for our event.

Great News Walter on the Speedway and the spin around the track ..... Question I have are we going to need "Studded Snow Tires" and lots of "Windshield De icer" ??? I think somebody said that Moss Motors has a special on tire chains and Miata bumper mounted snow plows this week !!!! Har ... Just tired of the "non top down" weather we are having around here.

COME ON SPRING ... GET HERE !!!!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news ... but take a look at weather.com .... Big Spring Winter Storm is brewing up for mid next week to hit the eastern seaboard along with below average temps. Does not look like M Beach will be impacted directly other than cooler temps .... getting to MB if you live north of there may be the challenge. Oh by the way, Spring offically sprung at 12:57 pm today !!

I am heading to Pep Boys this afternoon to see if they have any magnetic snow deflectors I can put on the hood of my MX-5 before I head to MB ..... They were all sold out of snow tires and chains last I checked !!! ... But my UPS Next Day order from Moss for a Nuclear Powered Aux Blast Heater for the Miata passenger seat should be here anytime !! That way I can ride top down in any winter mix !!!

Hi, all!

My name is Bark M. (Well, not really). Hopefully, some of you may recognize me from my contributions at The Truth About Cars.

I, along with another much more popular and more attractive TTAC author, Caroline Ellis, will be attending the Miata event in MB next weekend with the intent of covering it for TTAC. Please don't hate me for not owning a Miata...I did own an RX-8 for four years, though. Also, our EIC just wrote a wonderful article for Road and Track extolling the virtues of the Miata and other roadsters.

If you are willing to be interviewed for the story, please feel free to message me here. Thanks, and I look forward to meeting some of you!

http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USSC0239

One thing I've learned while living at the beach for many years is that 10 day forecasts are worthless. Being close to the ocean totally screws up forecasts. In the winter we'll be warmer than towns 5 miles inland. In the summer we'll be cooler. I've seen the entire state covered with lashing rain, except for a 1/2 mile strip along the coast where the sea breeze holds back the clouds. The 27th through the 30th may be rainy or not, but trust me, NOBODY knows yet.

If you hurry you could scoop one off the for sale forum here and nobody would be the wiser to your prior lack of Miata-ness, Jayber has a good NA right in NC you could even pick up on the way east to the beach! That would be some great investigative reporting as to what feeling drives us to buy and drive such awesome little cars and hang out with other owners like a big family.

So here's one solution to the snow coming to Maryland on Tuesday. My dad brings his Miata down over the weekend, takes my truck home, then brings the truck back on Tuesday during the snow. We leave on time to come to MB on Wednesday. That increases his total miles to get to MB to 1,100 miles!

Side effects: The BRZ gets kicked outside, and I now have 3 vehicles equipped with Summer tires to drive in the snow.

I'm so looking forward to getting out of here and getting to where it's a bit warmer.

Had a great time again, but felt bad that there weren't more CMC members here. Those who stayed away missed a good one, even though we had a little rain, we didn't have spring break the way we did last year. Here it is Saturday afternoon and I haven't seen many cheerleaders yet, either. The fellowship of this community is priceless, and I hate that so many missed out. After the car show I met a new Miata owner who saw this event on TV news and wanted to investigate. I invited him to this forum and told him the Miata family is a great group that I highly recommend.

See some photos of the Plantation Drive, the Beer (& Wine) Swap in the parking garage, and the car show. Thank you everyone for your support during the event!
Once I get the final "bills" paid for the event, I'll know what we raised and will be able to make the contribution to the CHSNC.
I know our numbers were down this year in terms of attendees, I think that it was the storms in Myrtle Beach that were on the "forecast" as much as the actual storms in the North East that kept some folks from driving down to kick off convertible season with us.
That said, I'm already looking forward to the remainder of the season and all the fun we are going to have with our tops down!
If any of y'all have pictures from the Track day (or videos going around the track and or AutoX course) please post them, thank you!
