Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (2024)

The woodland mansions in Minecraft have a surprising amount of depth and detail, randomly choosing from a pool of over 50 unique rooms that can spawn when these structures are generated. Cool factoids aside, though, you're probably interested in these rooms for one main reason: the loot.

Minecraft: The Most Useful Items, Ranked

We take a look at the best and most useful items you can find in Minecraft, from the humble shovel to the respawn anchor.

There are all kinds of things that you can spawn in woodland mansion chests, ranging from low to intermediate rarity items like coal, bread, or name tags, to incredibly rare items that, on average, won't pop up until you've searched over a dozen chests. If you want to know if you stumbled upon something really rare during your looting spree, you're in the right place.

Items listed were chosen based on Minecraft Wiki drop table data. Drop rates are identical between Minecraft Java and Bedrock Editions. Totems of Undying were not included because they are obtained from Evokers at a 100 percent drop rate when slain by a player.

10 Golden Apple

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (2)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 21.8%

It can be a pain spending eight gold ingots on golden apples when you craft them yourself. If you're in more of an exploratory mood, you can try your luck searching woodland mansion chests for this life-saving food instead.

On average, you'll find at least one golden apple for every 4.6 chests you search, which isn't terrible. Besides, this switches things up by avoiding more conventional methods of getting gold, like hitting the mines, agitating and defeating hordes of piglins, or making a gold farm.

9 Diamond Hoe

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (3)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 21.8%

While a diamond hoe isn't the first thing you'd typically be grabbing from a chest, it'll at least save you a couple of diamonds if you decide to pick it up. Sure, you can make stone or iron hoes, but with the enticing price tag of any stolen item (free), you might as well farm with style.

Hopefully the game doesn't inadvertently mock or discourage you, though; since diamond hoes share the same spawn chance as golden apples, it'd be rather unlucky to only come home with a bunch of these fancy farming tools as your spoils of war.

8 Pumpkin, Melon, Or Beetroot Seeds

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (4)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 18.5%

Unless the woodland mansion you're exploring spawns a dual-staged farm room full of pumpkins and melons, your best bet for pumpkin, melon, or beetroot seeds is from chests. On average, you'll find at least one of these seed types for every 5.4 chests you search.

If you do find any of these seed types, each spawn will yield two to four seeds. While woodland mansions tend to spawn far away from world spawns, this would be a great way to get these higher-tier seeds early on if you're lucky enough to find a mansion nearby.

7 Iron Ingot

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (5)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 18.5%

While iron doesn't tend to be a difficult resource to accumulate large quantities of, it wouldn't be an unwelcome sight to see a bunch of it in a chest, already smelted and ready to go. If you're lucky, you'll find the max quantity it can spawn with, which is four ingots per inventory cell it occupies.

Minecraft can be overwhelming at first, but this guide will show you what items you should build first when starting a game.

Or, in a worst-case scenario, like a shield breaking or gear needing immediate repairs, these spawns could be the difference between losing all your items, having to trek all the way back to your base, or continuing your conquest of the mansion.

6 Bucket

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (7)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 18.5%

Buckets are a handy item, and if you're a long-time Minecrafter, you probably won't be caught dead without one in your travels. From drive-by milk harvesting for ailment alleviation to saving you from fire damage or an otherwise lethal fall, there's a lot a plain old bucket can do.

Although, since the Illagers already seem to have an abundance of iron, given the ingot spawns and crossbows they wield, it's surprising that this item has such a rare spawn chance in the woodland mansion drop table.

5 Enchanted Books

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (8)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 14.9%

While the consistency of village trades is nice, that does cost resources, especially if you're trying to optimize trades and get the most control possible out of villagers. Instead, you could roll the dice trying to find enchanted books from chests.

These books could have any enchantment in the game, but on average, you'll have to search about 6.7 chests before you find your first enchanted book. It'd be a pretty exciting moment, though, if you found particularly useful enchantments, like a Mending or Silk Touch book.

4 Chainmail Chestplate

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (9)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 14.9%

Chainmail armor is a strange middle-ground between gold and iron armor in terms of defensive values, but unlike those armors, you cannot craft chainmail. While you can use chainmail armor for whatever purpose you see fit, it'd probably be best to put any pieces you find on an armor stand in your base.

Although, if you find this spawn chance not worthwhile of your time, consider the even rarer drop chance of armor from zombies, which only have an 8.5 percent chance of dropping equipment they've naturally spawned with.

3 Gold Ingot

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (10)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 9.6%

Why rob a bank or risk your life slaying piglins for a few gold nuggets when you could steal some loot from Illagers? They probably stole it themselves anyway; they are raiders, after all. That begs the question, though: does stealing what is already stolen cancel everything out?

Perhaps that is a question better suited for Robin Hood. Tangents and hypotheticals aside, on average, you'll have to search just over ten chests before you find your first golden ingot spawn, or more if you're particularly unlucky.

2 Diamond Chestplate

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (12)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 7.7%

This is one of the last things Illagers would want you to take from them, although it makes you wonder why it'd be sitting in a chest; why don't they put it on themselves?

Oh, and if you're wondering, sadly, any chestplates you come across won't spawn with any enchantments; you'd have to go to an End City for a chance at that.

But diamond chestplates on their own are still pretty darn good. On average, you'll have to rifle through 13 chests to find your first chestplate, which could be quite tedious; diving deep into some caves and mines might be more worthwhile.

1 Enchanted Golden Apple

Minecraft: Rarest Loot In Woodland Mansions (13)
  • Percent Spawn Chance: 3.1%

If you happen to come across an enchanted golden apple, you've hit the loot table jackpot. On average, you won't find one of these coveted items until you've searched roughly 32 chests. If you want better odds than that, you'd have to dive into an Ancient City.

Since this isn't a craftable item, you're forced to work with the spawn rates given. So, if you're lucky enough to obtain one, you better use it when it counts; it'd be a shame to see one lost or wasted.
