A woman's photo of what looked like "teeth" inside a barbacoa taco from a Pflugerville restaurant went viral recently. And while many reacted with disgust, an overwhelming amount of Texans are saying, "So what?"

Barbacoa is often prepared from different parts of the cow, but mostly from the head or cheek of cattle. But when Courtney Aguilar was delivered her barbacoa taco at El Rincon in Pflugerville, something inside looked funny. She asked a server what it was and was told it's "baby teeth."

After posting about the woman's experience on Facebook, KVUE quickly learned that those were fightin' words for a lot of Texans.

"I guess people don't know what barbacoa is made from?" Eric Thomaz said. "Pick 'em out and move on or stop eating meat you don't know."

"Here's the deal. That just means this barbacoa is fresh and the real deal. 100 percent beef," Lupe Rodriguez said. "Somehow people are grossed out by this. But are comfortable eating McDonalds chicken nuggets or Subways chicken breast that are made out of I don't know what."

Another Texan informed Aguilar those are not teeth, but are part of the cow lips.

"So just inspect your taco and use your booger hooks to scoop out the nasty parts," Pete Rodriguez said.

Turns out Rodriguez is right.

San Antonio Express-News talked to Laxson, the San Antonio company that provided the meat to the restaurant. A representative from the company explained that the "teeth" are actually "beef lips" and are a "USDA-inspected product for human consumption."

A food writer from San Antonio Express-News said it's not uncommon to find odd parts from the cow in barbacoa meet.
