The climate
The bannock tribe is part of the Great Basin. They are classified as indigenous people and there traditional lands are North Nevada, Southeastern Oreon, Southern Idaho and western Wyoming. In these areas they have boiling hot summers and very cold winters with low level of rainfall. They usually wear aprons and breach cloths made out of sagebrush in the summer and twin barked leggings with shirts like ponchos for winter.
Every day life
The bannock tribe was a hunter gather and trader group so they were usually picking grains like millet or hunting animals like elk and fish. The bannock tribe were also highly skilled basket makers, they made baskets which could hold the finest of grain. They also adopted ways from the plain tribe, some of these ways were the plain tribes religion but the ,bannock tribe modified it.
Contacts with other tribes and nations
The bannock tribe had a lot of history with other cultures There first encounter was with white people were 1580 and was with the Spanish, they had a reputation in 1700 as being hostile to the whites. In 1878 there was a bannock war between the bannock tribe and the us army because the us took a lot of the bannock traditional hunting land. They also have had a lot on conflict with the sheep eater tribe who was affiliated with the bannocks eventually leading into war in 1878. The main weapons they used were bows, stone knifes and spears.
How was society governed
The bannock tribe had a most famous chief who's name was the chief buffalo horn most of the wars were led by him . Although they have changed a lot as of today they now have a Shoshone bannock court for tribal members.
Beliefs and values
The bannock tribes beliefs and religions were largely based around dreams and visions. These dreams and visions were used to get help from Guardian Angels. They believed in Appi, as a creator but the main mythological figures were the wolf and coyote. They thought that the wolf was responsible for creation of people and the coyote was a bad and brought disorder. All religious practitioners were sharmans more or less.
