Homemade Old Bay Seasoning Recipe

Since I was a kid, I have loved Old Bay Seasoning on Blue Crabs and other seafood. My dad was the attorney for Card Sound, a littleunincorporated area that is found on the way to the Florida Keys. The residents there are referred to as “Squatters.” They were some of the nicest people I have ever met.

They lived in little shacks along the water. Fred’s Place was the only real establishment around. We would drive down there almost every weekend and spend some time visiting the residents and hanging at Fred’s place, enjoying the local fare. We never left home without our huge ice chest and brought home dozens of Blue Crabs, which we purchased from the residents. Those were good and special times.

Today, Card Sound has changed, as new laws removed all those people from their homes. My dad was not alive to see the transformation.

Steamed Blue Crabs are not complete without a generous sprinkling of Old Bay Seasoning. If you have seenany copycat Old Bay recipes on line, you will note that my recipe is a bit different. After much experimentation I found that I prefer my homemade version, which has a more pronounced celery/mustard taste. I would bet that most of you already have all the spices on hand, in your pantry.

Since making my own Homemade Old Bay Seasoning Recipe, I have discovered that I really enjoy the seasoning on so many other types of food. It is delicious used on fried chicken. Try my Air Fryer Crispy Old Bay Chicken Wings with Warm Lemon Butterand let me know what you think. Sprinkle on my Pressure Cooker Creamy Mashed Potatoesor add a teaspoon to my very popular Air Fryer Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwichrecipe to add a whole new flavor.

Having this Homemade Old Bay Seasoning Recipereally comes in handy when you want to make my Pressure Cooker Seafood Corn Chowder. Rather than adding the spices one at time, just use two Tablespoons of this already prepared mix!

Better Than Homemade Old Bay Seasoning Recipe

Pouring the mix into an air tight container is easier. 🙂

Store in an airtight container or 4 oz Mason Jars. I like to buy my spices in bulk and have been switching to these little Ball 4 oz Mason Jars. Spices lose their potency over time and I try to only buy and/or make enough for about six months at a time. If you feel you will use my Homemade Old Bay Seasoning Recipe quickly, then just double the recipe.
