Tuxedo Mask's Best Love Interests in Sailor Moon, Ranked (2024)

Mamoru Chiba, Tuxedo Mask, is the central love interest in Sailor Moon. He's many '90s anime fans' first anime crush, and he has plenty of love interests in the series. It's understandable that so many characters crush on him as he's dashing, handsome, accomplished, and sweet.

Tuxedo Mask is utterly devoted to Sailor Moon. They are destined lovers whose story extends back to their previous lives. Before they remember their past, though, Mamoru did go on a few dates with other people. And after Mamoru and Usagi finally get together, many other characters still vie for his attention. Some of Tuxedo Mask's love interests and crushes definitely still make more sense than others.

9 An Turns Her Gaze Toward Mamoru

An and Ail are the last of their kind in Sailor Moon R, and they are the main antagonists of the Makai Tree arc. They spend most of their time disguising themselves as humans and cooking up schemes to harvest energy to revive their Tree. That doesn't mean they don't have time to develop some hefty crushes, though.

Ail has a huge crush on Usagi Tsukino, and An has eyes for Mamoru Chiba. An even goes so far as to try and cut the red thread of fate that spiritually ties Usagi and Mamoru together as lovers. An's crush on Mamoru is destined to be unrequited, but it's a step on her journey as she and Ail learn what the meaning of love and life is. Once they figure out its true meaning, they learn what the Makai Tree really needs to survive.

8 Wicked Lady Has Twisted Feelings

By far, one of the most controversial plot lines in Sailor Moon is the short Wicked Lady saga. Understandably, most fans balk at the part where Wicked Lady has a crush on Tuxedo Mask--her own father. She doesn't really count as an actual love interest, but there's no doubt that this is a canon part of the series. Wicked Lady is the grown-up, evil version of Chibiusa, or Sailor Chibi Moon. She's Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask's future daughter.

As a child, Chibiusa feels most supported and comforted by her father because, between Usagi and Mamoru, Mamoru is the more nurturing presence. She even hero-worships him, as many children hero-worship people they look up to. When Wiseman gets his clutches around Chibiusa, he transforms her into Wicked Lady, and those hero-worship feelings become warped into something disgusting, resulting in Wicked Lady kissing Mamoru. These actions don't reflect Chibiusa's true feelings.

7 Queen Beryl's Love Turned Into Something Terrible

Before Queen Beryl served Metalia and the Dark Kingdom, she was a simple peasant girl who fell in love with an unreachable prince from afar. She and that prince were never meant to be, as he was already in love with another lady--Princess Serenity. Prince Endymion was just as handsome and swashbuckling during the Silver Millennium as he is in his current life as Tuxedo Mask. It's understandable that Beryl would love Prince Endymion, and her heartbreak is certainly sympathetic.

She let her heartbreak turn into vengeance, though. Queen Metalia of the Dark Kingdom saw Beryl's pain and exploited it. Beryl didn't resist, and she leaped at the chance Metalia gave her to destroy the Moon Kingdom, killing Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion. After Endymion's reborn as Mamoru Chiba, Queen Beryl still covets him. She's a total villain, willing to brainwash Mamoru into loving her. Of course, the "love" isn't real, and it doesn't last.

6 Rei Is Usagi's Temporary Romantic Rival

Usagi has a crush on Tuxedo Mask practically from their first meeting when he comes to her aid during her first battle as Sailor Moon. He's a mysterious and dashing figure who shows her a lot of emotional support, so it's understandable that she would crush on him. Rei Hino is no different; her eyes pop out of her head when she first meets Tuxedo Mask as Sailor Mars, too.

Sailor Mars and Sailor Moon bicker over who gets to have a crush on Tuxedo Mask. Rei suspects, correctly, that Mamoru is Tuxedo Mask's civilian identity, but Usagi totally rejects her suspicion. Nevertheless, Usagi's beside herself when Rei starts making moves on Mamoru. Rei creates a love triangle when she cajoles Mamoru to go on a few dates with her, but there's no denying that Mamoru is more polite than interested. Rei kind of freaks him out with her awkward intensity.

5 Queen Nehelenia Believes That Tuxedo Mask Should Be with Her

Queen Nehelenia is Neo-Queen Serenity's foil. She's the one who prophesies that Princess Serenity will die before she can become queen of the Moon Kingdom, and she's a villain in two story arcs: the Dream arc and the Stars arc. Where Neo-Queen Serenity is wise and selfless, Queen Nehelenia is consumed by jealousy and self-destructive vanity.

Queen Nehelenia targets Mamoru in the Stars arc the second she's freed from her mirror prison. She attacks him with her mirror shards, lodging them in his eye. Her magic corrupts Mamoru from the inside out until he believes that he's in love with her. Once Nehelenia's healed, Mamoru's also freed from her spell.

4 Fish Eye Loves to Flirt with Mamoru

Fish Eye and the rest of the Amazon Trio are very flirtatious people, always looking for a person to crush on. They like to prioritize targeting people for Zirconia who are good-looking. Fish Eye has crushes on many people, but he definitely favors Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask.

Fish Eye's feelings for Mamoru are so strong that they have him questioning whether he's doing the right thing by working for Zirconia. He's also far less ruthless with Mamoru than he is with the other attractive targets that he goes after. Usagi, of course, catches on to Fish Eye's feelings for Mamoru, and as she's in a relationship with him, Usagi does not like it at all. Mamoru doesn't return Fish Eye's feelings, and lets him know that, as he only has eyes for Usagi.

3 Mimete Brazenly Flirts with Mamoru

Mimete is a villain fan favorite. She has an amazing character design--she looks like a ballerina in a Halloween-themed tutu. She's a talented singer, and has a very humorous personality. Mimete works very hard as a villain, but she's always making clumsy mistakes. Her enthusiasm makes up for her clumsiness, and many Sailor Moon fans wanted to see her switch to the good side.

Mimete is also very attracted to Mamoru, and she brazenly puts herself in his path whenever she gets a chance. She even goes so far as to flirt with Mamoru right in front of his future wife and child. Mamoru doesn't entertain her overtures, though. He cheerfully and politely puts Mimete in her place as Usagi chokes on her fury.

2 Fiore Pines for Mamoru

Fiore and Mamoru have a long history. They met as young children, during the most difficult parts of their respective lives. Fiore is a lost child with no family or planet, and he lands on Earth to find a young Mamoru, newly bereft of his parents. Fiore and Mamoru bond and become best friends. When Fiore comes back to Earth again as an adult, he instantly seeks out Mamoru, hoping for a union.

The intensity of their feelings suggest that they had a kind of puppy love that Fiore hoped to continue in a matured, romantic sense. Timing and fate are sadly not on Fiore's side, as Mamoru is already in a relationship with Usagi. Mamoru still loves Fiore as a friend, and wants to maintain the connection. Their connection is complicated when Fiore's alien parasite, the Kissenian Flower, convinces Fiore to abduct Mamoru to keep him away from Usagi. Fiore eventually comes to his senses and blesses Mamoru's relationship with Usagi.

1 Usagi's Destined to Be with Mamoru

Usagi and Mamoru do not get along at all when they first meet in their current lives in the original Sailor Moon anime. They have a pretty classic tsundere-tsundere relationship in the first season. Mamoru teases Usagi over her flaws, and Usagi inevitably falls prey to clumsiness and makes a fool of herself in front of him.

Everything changes when Usagi transforms into Sailor Moon in front of Mamoru, impressing him with her bravery. Soon after the transformation, they recover their lost memories of their original love story in the Moon Kingdom as Princess Serenity and Mamoru Chiba. They grow together, and no matter what gets thrown their way, Usagi and Mamoru are destined to overcome obstacles and unite as a couple.
