Ginger Chia Seed Limeade (1)

This ginger chia seed limeade designed for hydration and digestion is going to be your new favorite drink! I love to drink this in the summer, you can even serve it on ice for a cooling, refreshing drink.

I usually have this drink to start the day and in the afternoon. Around similar times in which the body craves caffeine. The reason we crave caffeine in the morning and late afternoon is because these are the times our bodies natural cortisol goes up. It’s all a part of our circadian rhythm.

Instead of having caffeine, which is not only dehydrating but it taxes the adrenal glands aka producing excess cortisol. I love to have this electrolyte filled drink instead.

For those who don’t know, I have had two adrenal diseases. As a rare disease survivor, helping others to keep these vital organs healthy and happy is a huge passion of mine!

A Healthy Limeade or Lemonade Alternative

So back to electrolytes! A very important way to start your day with and have throughout the day, especially in the heat as well as after any exercise.

I always loved lemonade growing up! In fact, I made many a lemonade stands by back in the day. Most lemonade and limeade drinks however come from concentrate and is packed with refined sugar.

This ginger chia seed limeade uses a little maple syrup, which is an unrefined sugar containing minerals.

Natural Tools for Ultimate Digestion

Not only is proper hydration very important for digestion and avoiding constipation but ginger and chia seeds are two things that when incorporated regularly are extremely helpful!

The ginger in this recipe takes the flavor to the next level. It airs perfectly with lime or lemon and is great for boosting energy levels, improving immunity and digestion!

Ginger is a wonderful natural remedy to combat nausea and invigorates the digestive system. I highly recommend using fresh ginger in this recipe if possible, which you can find a most grocery stores and supermarkets.

You don’t need to a juicer to enjoy fresh ginger, just a microplane grater and zester to put into this drink and others! I also use this to grate fresh turmeric into things like orange juice.

Chia seeds when soaked for about 15-20 minutes, absorb the liquid they’re in and become gelatinous. It basically helps to do an internal cleanse through the digestion system to help move things through. Not to mention they are a great source of fiber, great for the skin and contain heart healthy omega 3s!

FAQs

Can I substitute or omit the maple syrup in this recipe?

Yes you can! This drink can actually be made with coconut water instead of water and just omit the maple syrup. This also provides a ton of extra electrolytes and is naturally sweet. You could also substitute the maple syrup for any liquid sweetener of choice.

Can this be made with other citrus aside from limes?

Yes, this is delicious with lemon juice as well. You could use another citrus if you want. If using coconut water, orange juice pairs very well also.
